YBX1 binds to splice sites in pre-mRNA and regulates splice site selection. It stabilizes cytoplasmic mRNA and modulates translation by influencing interactions between mRNA and eukaryotic initiation factors.
This protein binds to promoters containing a Y-box (5'-CTGATTGGCCAA-3'), including HLA class II genes, and regulates transcription of numerous genes.
It promotes separation of mismatched or cisplatin-modified DNA strands, exhibits endonucleolytic activity, and may play a role in DNA repair.
