Target Information
Cytochrome P450 superfamily proteins are monooxygenases that catalyze various biochemical reactions involved in drug metabolism and the synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and lipids.
CYP4F3, a 60 kDa protein, is a novel member of this family. It contains a conserved heme-binding domain near the C-terminus and catalyzes the ω-hydroxylation of LTB4.
CYP4F3 is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and plays an essential role in LTB4 inactivation and inflammation control.
CYP4F3 exists in two distinct isoforms:
- CYP4F3A: Neutrophil isoform, expressed in neutrophils and myeloid cells, catalyzes microsomal ω-hydroxylation of LTB4.
- CYP4F3B: Liver isoform, catalyzes conversion of arachidonic acid to 20-HETE, a potent PKC activator involved in cell proliferation, vascular tone regulation, and natriuresis.
