Target Information
EEF2K (Eukaryotic Elongation Factor 2 Kinase) is a highly conserved serine/threonine kinase in the calmodulin signaling pathway. Its activity is increased in several cancers, including breast cancer.
EEF2K regulates protein synthesis by controlling the rate of peptide chain elongation. Upon activation by upstream kinases such as AMPK or TRPM7, EEF2K phosphorylates elongation factor EEF2 at a single site, preventing EEF2 from binding ribosomes and thereby reducing the rate of protein synthesis.
