Target Information
The S100A7 gene encodes a protein belonging to the S100 family, which contains two EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of various cells and are involved in regulating cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. The S100 gene family includes at least 13 members clustered on chromosome 1q21. Unlike other S100 proteins, this protein lacks calcium-binding ability in one EF-hand at the N-terminus. It is markedly overexpressed in psoriatic skin lesions but is not a candidate gene for familial psoriasis susceptibility. The exact function of this protein remains unclear.
