Target Information
Trypsin is a 24 kDa enzyme belonging to the serine proteinase family. It is produced in the pancreas as an inactive precursor, trypsinogen, and activated in the gastrointestinal tract where it degrades proteins into peptides. Trypsin preferentially cleaves at lysine and arginine residues and can activate chymotrypsinogen to form chymotrypsin. Elevated levels of immunoreactive trypsin in blood may indicate pancreatic dysfunction and are used in screening for cystic fibrosis.
