Target Information

CD26 (dipeptidyl peptidase IV, DPP IV; adenosine deaminase binding protein) is a homodimeric serine protease belonging to the prolyl oligopeptidase family. It is expressed on lymphocytes and upregulated during T-cell activation, as well as on activated B cells, NK cells, and epithelial cells. CD26 participates in T-cell activation, cell adhesion to extracellular matrix proteins (fibronectin, collagens), and HIV infection. It acts as a membrane glycoprotein and serine exopeptidase that removes X-proline dipeptides from the N-terminus of polypeptides. Altered CD26 activity is associated with malignant transformation and increased tumor grade. Expression changes have also been noted in autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
