Target Information
RAB family members are small, RAS-related GTP-binding proteins that are important regulators of vesicular transport. Each RAB protein targets multiple proteins that act in exocytic and endocytic pathways.
RAB7A regulates vesicle traffic in late endosomes and transport from late endosomes to lysosomes. It is also involved in cellular vacuolation induced by the VacA cytotoxin of Helicobacter pylori.
Mutations in conserved residues of this gene have been associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) type 2 neuropathies.
