Target Information
MAP2K3 (MEK3) is a dual-specificity protein kinase that functions in cellular signal transduction pathways and is required for glucose transporter expression. It phosphorylates and activates MAPK14/p38-MAPK and can be activated by insulin. Expression of the RAS oncogene leads to accumulation of active MEK3, resulting in constitutive activation of MAPK14 and oncogenic transformation of primary cells. Inhibition of MEK3 is involved in the pathogenesis of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported for MEK3.
