Target Information
RNA-binding protein that regulates translation of specific target mRNA species downstream of the mTORC1 complex, depending on growth signals and nutrient availability.
Interacts with the 3′ poly-A tails of mRNAs and with the 7-methylguanosine cap structure of mRNAs containing a 5′TOP motif, leading to translational repression by preventing EIF4G1 binding.
When mTORC1 is activated, LARP1 is phosphorylated and dissociates from the 5′UTR of mRNA.
Interacts with ribosomal subunits and polysomes, enhancing translation of mRNAs with a 5′TOP motif, thus regulating protein synthesis, cell growth, and proliferation.
Stabilizes mRNAs with a 5′TOP motif, preventing apoptosis.
