Target Information
STING (TMEM173) is a 379-amino acid signaling protein that plays a crucial role in innate immune signaling. It activates NF-κB and IRF3 transcription pathways, inducing type I interferon (IFN-α and IFN-β) expression and establishing an antiviral state.
STING may also function as a translocon, influencing type I interferon induction and mediating apoptotic signaling via MHC-II association. It is involved in detecting intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA, and mediates death signaling through ERK pathway activation.
STING is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane, and is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
