Target Information

ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1) acts as a transcriptional repressor that inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression.
It can enhance or repress ATP1A1 promoter activity depending on cDNA quantity and cell type.
ZEB1 represses E-cadherin promoters and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by recruiting SMARCA4/BRG1.
It also represses BCL6 transcription in the presence of CTBP1 and regulates neuronal differentiation by repressing RCOR1 activation during neurogenesis.
Mutations in ZEB1 are associated with corneal dystrophies such as posterior polymorphous and Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy type 6.
