Target Information
Tight junctions are specialized cell-to-cell adhesion structures in epithelial or endothelial sheets, forming continuous seals that regulate paracellular transport. Claudin 14, a member of the claudin family, is an integral membrane protein and a key component of tight junction strands. It interacts with the WW domain of Yes-associated protein. Mutations in the Claudin 14 gene are associated with autosomal recessive nonsyndromic sensorineural deafness. Multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
