Product Specific Information
This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%) to avoid contamination.
Recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies are produced using in vitro expression systems developed by cloning specific antibody DNA sequences from immunoreactive rabbits. Individual clones are screened to select optimal candidates for production.
Advantages include:
- Better specificity and sensitivity
- Lot-to-lot consistency
- Animal origin-free formulations
- Broader immunoreactivity due to larger rabbit immune repertoire
This antibody has specificity for Human CD59.
Target Information
CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored, ubiquitously expressed inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC). It regulates complement cascade by preventing autologous cell lysis through inhibition of cytolytic pore formation.
CD59 binds complement C8 and/or C9 during MAC assembly, blocking multiple C9 incorporations required for pore formation. It also acts as a low-affinity ligand of human CD2, contributing to T cell costimulation and lymphocyte signal transduction.
Mutations in CD59 cause CD59 deficiency, associated with hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants are known.
