Target Information
Catalase is a homotetrameric heme-containing enzyme located within the matrix of all peroxisomes. It catalyzes the dismutation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Human catalase has a C-terminal sequence (-KANL) for peroxisome targeting, and the monomer has a molecular mass of approximately 61.3 kDa.
Catalase plays critical roles in:

- Apoptosis inhibition
- Tumor stimulation
Loss of catalase activity is associated with the human genetic disorder acatalasemia (Takahara’s disease).
