Mitochondrial creatine kinase (MtCK)는 미토콘드리아에서 세포질 캐리어인 크레아틴으로 고에너지 인산을 전달하는 역할을 합니다. 크레아틴 키나아제 이소효소 패밀리에 속하며, 두 가지 이소효소(sarcomeric MtCK와 ubiquitous MtCK)가 각각 다른 유전자에 의해 암호화됩니다. MtCK는 이합체와 팔합체 형태로 존재하며, 세포질 크레아틴 키나아제는 이합체 형태만 가집니다. Sarcomeric MtCK는 ubiquitous MtCK의 코딩 엑손과 80%의 상동성을 가지며, 미토콘드리아 생합성 과정에서 핵 유전자 활성화에 필수적인 서열을 포함합니다. 이 유전자는 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 세 가지 전사 변이를 가집니다.
