Target Information
Plasmolipin (PLLP) is an 18 kDa membrane-bound proteolipid belonging to the tetraspan (4TM) family, commonly associated with myelin-related proteins. It may play a role in human hereditary demyelinating neuropathies. Plasmolipin contributes to cytoskeletal structure and is localized to the apical surface of tubular epithelial cells. It can induce voltage-dependent, potassium-specific ion channels in lipid bilayers. Initially isolated from kidney tissue, it is also expressed in nervous system, thymus, testis, lung, and thyroid gland.
