Target Information
Transcription factor HES-2, part of the HES family of proteins, contains one basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) domain and one orange domain. It is expressed in vascular smooth muscle cells and may play a role in their differentiation. Activation of the Notch signaling pathway leads to activation of Hes family genes through interaction between Notch intracellular domain and RBPSUH (CSL). Hes family proteins are mammalian homologs of Drosophila Hairy and Enhancer of split, and are implicated in stem cell fate determination by repressing tissue-specific transcriptional activators.
