Target Information
CD2 (LFA-2) is a monomeric surface antigen (MW 45–58 kDa) expressed on human T-lymphocytes and most thymocytes, as well as some natural killer cells. It is not found on B lymphocytes. CD2 plays a key role in T-cell adhesion and activation through interaction with CD58, stabilizing contact between T cells and antigen-presenting cells. Increased CD2 expression enhances T-cell activation and adhesion. CD2 deficiency has been linked to reduced intestinal inflammation and immune dysfunctions such as thymic absence-related immunodeficiency and certain carcinomas.
