Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa, and isoelectric pH between 4.9 and 7.8. Human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20.
Expression patterns of cytokeratin subtypes are used to distinguish different types of epithelial malignancies and to assess epithelial differentiation. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis using immunohistochemistry, and are valuable tools in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
