Target Information

The soluble sulfotransferases contribute to the elimination of xenobiotics, activation of procarcinogens, and regulation of hormones by catalyzing sulfate conjugation. Members of the SULT superfamily (SULT1, SULT2, SULT3) show substrate selectivity.
SULT1A1 (sulfotransferase family, cytosolic, 1A, phenol-preferring, member 1), also known as STP or STP1, is a 295 amino acid protein localized in the cytoplasm. It functions as a homodimer expressed in brain, liver, skin, and lung tissue.
SULT1A1 catalyzes sulfate conjugation of catecholamines, phenolic drugs, and neurotransmitters, contributing to the elimination of various compounds. It may also be involved in activation of carcinogenic N-hydroxyarylamines, suggesting a role in carcinogenesis.
