Target Information
The soluble sulfotransferases contribute to the elimination of xenobiotics, activation of procarcinogens, and regulation of hormones by catalyzing sulfate conjugation. Members of the SULT superfamily (SULT1, SULT2, SULT3) exhibit substrate selectivity.
SULT1A1 (sulfotransferase family, cytosolic, 1A, phenol-preferring, member 1), also known as STP or STP1, is a 295-amino-acid cytoplasmic protein functioning as a homodimer expressed in brain, liver, skin, and lung tissue. It catalyzes sulfate conjugation of catecholamines, phenolic drugs, and neurotransmitters, aiding in the elimination of various compounds. SULT1A1 may also activate carcinogenic N-hydroxyarylamines, suggesting a role in carcinogenesis.
