Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with the epsilon (ε) chain of the CD3 complex.
Target Information
The CD3 subunit complex is crucial for transducing antigen-recognition signals into the cytoplasm of T cells and regulating cell surface expression of the TCR complex.
T cell activation through the antigen receptor (TCR) involves the cytoplasmic tails of CD3 subunits (γ, δ, ε, ζ), which are structurally related members of the immunoglobulin superfamily encoded by genes on human chromosome 11.
CD3 may play roles in TCR-induced growth arrest, cell survival, and proliferation.
- CD3 antigen is expressed on 68–82% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes, 65–85% of thymocytes, and Purkinje cells in the cerebellum.
- It is not expressed on B or NK cells.
- Decreased T lymphocyte percentages may be observed in autoimmune diseases.
- Genes encoding CD3 ε, γ, and δ are located on chromosome 11.
- Defects in the CD3 gene are associated with CD3 immunodeficiency.
