Target Information
Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and perform diverse functions, primarily involving transcriptional activation or repression. Most zinc-finger proteins possess a Krueppel-type DNA binding domain and a KRAB domain, which interacts with KAP1 to recruit histone-modifying proteins.
Zinc finger protein 268 (ZNF268), also known as zinc finger protein 3 or HZF3, is a 947-amino acid member of the Krueppel C2H2-type zinc-finger family. It contains 24 C2H2-type zinc fingers and one KRAB domain. Localized in the nucleus, ZNF268 participates in transcriptional regulation and is highly expressed in 3–5 week-old embryos. It has been implicated in human leukemia through alternatively spliced forms observed in leukemia patients. Two isoforms of ZNF268 exist due to alternative splicing events.
