Product Specific Information
The OKT4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed by the majority of thymocytes, a subpopulation of mature T cells (T-helper cells), and at low levels on monocytes. CD4 acts as a receptor for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
The OKT4 antibody recognizes a distinct epitope from the RPA-T4 monoclonal antibody; these antibodies do not cross-block each other.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells at ≤0.125 µg per test (100 µL final volume).
Cell number can range from 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Antibody should be titrated for optimal performance.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.
Target Information
CD4 antigen participates in MHC class II molecule recognition and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed on T helper cells but can also be found on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
Tissue-level expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of brain and gut.
CD4 contributes to early T-cell activation via interaction with T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase, and may mediate neuronal damage in infectious or immune-mediated CNS diseases.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts are known (RefSeq, July 2017).
