Gene: CSNK2A1
Description: CSNK2A1 encodes a serine/threonine protein kinase that phosphorylates acidic proteins. The kinase exists as a tetramer composed of alpha, alpha-prime, and two beta subunits. The alpha subunits contain catalytic activity, while the beta subunits undergo autophosphorylation. CK2 alpha-1 represents the alpha subunit found on chromosome 20, with a related pseudogene on chromosome 11. Three transcript variants encoding two different proteins have been identified.
