PCDH7 belongs to the protocadherin gene family, a subfamily of the cadherin superfamily.
It encodes an integral membrane protein with seven cadherin repeats in its extracellular domain, functioning in cell-cell recognition and adhesion.
Alternative splicing produces isoforms with distinct cytoplasmic tails.
