Target Information
The MEF2D gene encodes a transcription factor belonging to the myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2 (MEF2) family. These transcription factors regulate muscle and neuronal cell differentiation and development, modulated by class II histone deacetylases. Fusions of MEF2D with DAZAP1 have been identified in acute lymphoblastic leukemia, suggesting a role in leukemogenesis. The protein may also be associated with Parkinson’s disease and myotonic dystrophy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
