Target Information
p27 Kip1 functions as a negative regulator of G1 phase progression and may act as a mediator of TGFβ-induced G1 arrest. It is a key regulator of cell cycle progression and a potent inhibitor of cyclin E- and cyclin A-CDK2 complexes. p27 Kip1 forms complexes with cyclin D-CDK4, influencing their assembly, stability, and activation. Its phosphorylation state determines whether it acts as an inhibitor or activator. The protein (~27 kDa) undergoes CDK-dependent phosphorylation and ubiquitination by SCF complexes, leading to its degradation and enabling the transition from quiescence to proliferation.
