Target Information

ADAMs (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase domain), also known as MDCs, are a family of membrane-anchored proteins expressed in various tissues. They are involved in proteolysis, adhesion, fusion, and intracellular signaling.
ADAM23 is exclusively expressed in fetal and adult brain and may function as an integrin ligand in neural cells. Adhesion of neuroblastoma and astrocytoma cells is mediated by the disintegrin-like domain of ADAM23 interacting with αvβ3 integrin.
Unlike other metalloproteinases, ADAM23 lacks the typical catalytic residues, suggesting its role is limited to cell adhesion processes. Evidence also suggests ADAM23 may act as a tumor suppressor gene.
