ATG101은 자가포식(autophagy)에 관여하며, 세포 내 단백질을 오토파고좀-리소좀 경로를 통해 분해하는 과정에서 중요한 역할을 합니다. 정상적인 성장 조절에 필수적이며, 종양 세포에서는 이 과정이 결함을 보일 수 있습니다.
ATG101은 ATG13을 안정화시키며 ULK1, ULK2, FIP200과 복합체를 형성합니다. 이 복합체는 TOR에 의해 인산화되어 자가포식이 조절됩니다. Rapamycin 또는 leucine 결핍 시 TOR 억제로 인해 ATG13, ULK1, ULK2가 탈인산화되어 자가포식이 유도됩니다. ATG101은 ULK1과 상호작용하며 자가포식에 필수적인 단백질입니다.
