Alpha 2-Macroglobulin (A2M)은 약 720 kDa의 호모테트라머 글라이코프로틴으로, 약 180 kDa의 동일한 서브유닛 4개로 구성됩니다. A2M은 다양한 리간드에 대한 비특이적 결합 능력을 가지며, 혈장 내에서 외래 펩타이드에 대한 방어 장벽 역할을 합니다. 또한 거의 모든 단백질분해효소를 포획하는 panprotease inhibitor로 알려져 있습니다. 알츠하이머병(AD) 환자의 뇌에서 A2M은 확산성 아밀로이드 플라크에 존재하는 것으로 보고되어, AD 병리에서 중요한 역할을 시사합니다.
