Function: Mediates the proteolytic cleavage of HP/haptoglobin in the endoplasmic reticulum.
Caution: Does not associate with the C1 complex; does not cleave the proform of complement C1s (PubMed:15385675).
Induction: Up-regulated in monocytes and dendritic cells (DC) undergoing maturation or activation.
Similarity: Belongs to the peptidase S1 family; contains one CUB domain and one peptidase S1 domain.
Tissue Specificity: Highly expressed in placenta, liver, kidney, pancreas; moderately in lung, spleen, prostate, ovary, colon, and PBL; weakly in heart, skeletal muscle, thymus, testis, and small intestine.
Expressed in PC-3 and SK-OV-3 cells, but not in LoVo, HT-29, SMMC7721, CaoV-3, HeLa, MCF-7, U251, or A549 cells.
Widely expressed in myeloid leukemia cell lines (K-562, THP-1, HL-60, NB4, KG-1).
Mainly expressed in liver and serum at the protein level.
