Background
C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 1 (CXCR1) is a G-protein-coupled receptor that binds interleukin-8 (IL8) with high affinity and transduces signals via a G-protein-activated second messenger system. Knockout studies in mice indicate that CXCR1 inhibits embryonic oligodendrocyte precursor migration in the developing spinal cord. The IL8RB gene, encoding another high-affinity IL8 receptor, and IL8RBP, a pseudogene of IL8RB, form a gene cluster in the 2q33–q36 chromosomal region.
