배경 정보

Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes that can mediate lysis of certain tumor cells and virus-infected cells without previous activation. They also regulate humoral and cell-mediated immunity. NK cells preferentially express several calcium-dependent (C-type) lectins, implicated in NK cell function regulation. The NKG2 gene family, located within the NK complex, encodes a member with type II membrane orientation and a C-type lectin domain. It binds diverse ligands, including MHC class I chain-related A/B proteins and UL-16 binding proteins, resulting in activation upon ligand-receptor interaction.
