Background
This gene belongs to the small GTPase superfamily and encodes a lipid-anchored cell membrane protein containing five RAS-related GTP-binding repeats. It plays a critical role in regulating cell growth and cycle progression through the insulin/TOR/S6K signaling pathway. The protein exhibits GTPase activity, cycling between GDP- and GTP-bound forms, and requires farnesylation for its function. Three pseudogenes have been identified — two on chromosome 10 and one on chromosome 22.
