Target Information
Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and have potential as novel cancer and disease biomarkers.
The KLK8 gene is one of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located in tandem on chromosome 19. The encoded protein may be involved in proteolytic cascades in the skin and serve as a biomarker for ovarian cancer.
Alternate splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
