Target Information

Tryptase gamma (TPSG1), also known as serine protease 31 or transmembrane tryptase, is an enzyme encoded by the TPSG1 gene in humans.
Tryptases are trypsin-like serine proteases belonging to the peptidase family S1, active only as heparin-stabilized tetramers and resistant to endogenous proteinase inhibitors.
Several tryptase genes are located on chromosome 16p13.3, including αI, βI, βII, and γI, each with allelic variants.
Beta tryptases are mainly expressed in mast cells, while alpha-tryptases predominate in basophils.
TPSG1 differs from other family members by having a C-terminal hydrophobic domain that may act as a membrane anchor.
Tryptases are implicated in asthma and other allergic or inflammatory disorders.
