Mouse IL-6 (also known as B Cell Stimulating Factor, BCSF, and BSF-2) is a ~21–28 kDa cytokine produced by various cell types, including monocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells. Upon stimulation, macrophages, T cells, B cells, mast cells, glial cells, eosinophils, keratinocytes, and granulocytes also secrete IL-6. This pleiotropic cytokine influences antigen-specific immune responses, inflammation, and neuronal development, and is a major mediator of the acute phase reaction.

Mouse IL-6 Lyophilized Standard is used in the Mouse IL-6 ELISA Ready-SET-Go! Set (Product # 88-7064).

Applications Tested:
Intended for use as a standard in Mouse IL-6 ELISA (Product # 88-7064-88). Typically, standards are run in 7 doubling dilutions starting from the top standard. Refer to the Certificate of Analysis for reconstitution and dilution instructions.

Note:
Single-use vials only. Use within 4 hours of reconstitution and discard after use. Reconstitute and dilute according to Certificate of Analysis to ensure accurate recovery.

Target Information

IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. The protein is an endogenous pyrogen that can induce fever in autoimmune diseases or infections. IL-6 is expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into serum, and induces transcriptional inflammatory responses through the IL-6 receptor alpha. It is implicated in various inflammation-associated diseases, including diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Elevated IL-6 levels are observed in viral infections, including COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2). Diseases associated with IL6 include Kaposi Sarcoma and Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Juvenile.
