Target Information
Guanylyl cyclases catalyze the production of cGMP from GTP and are classified into soluble and membrane forms. Membrane guanylyl cyclases (A–F) are cell-surface receptors with an extracellular ligand-binding domain, a single transmembrane domain, and an intracellular region containing a kinase-like domain and a cyclase catalytic domain.
GC-A and GC-B act as receptors for natriuretic peptides (atrial and brain types). NPR1, a membrane-bound guanylate cyclase, serves as the receptor for atrial and brain natriuretic peptides (ANP and BNP). Also see NPR3, which encodes a protein with ligand-binding and transmembrane domains plus a short cytoplasmic tail.
