Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCD (PKC delta), is activated by intracellular signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 PKC isoforms have been identified, differing in structure, tissue distribution, localization, and substrate specificity. Conventional PKC isoforms (alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma) are Ca²⁺ and phospholipid-dependent.
PKC family members phosphorylate a wide range of protein targets and play key roles in cellular signaling pathways. They also act as receptors for phorbol esters, known tumor promoters. PKC delta is involved in B cell signaling, growth regulation, apoptosis, and differentiation across various cell types. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed in human and mouse studies.
