Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx includes six members grouped into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx types. All but Prx VI possess thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase activity using thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH as reducing agents. These proteins (20–30 kDa) vary in subcellular localization:
- Prx I, II, VI: cytosol
- Prx III: mitochondria
- Prx IV: endoplasmic reticulum and secretion
- Prx V: peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol
