Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes and are classified into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
ABCE1 belongs to the OABP subfamily and is also known as the RNase L inhibitor. It functions to block ribonuclease L activity, which inhibits protein synthesis in the 2-5A/RNase L antiviral system. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
