Target Information
MAPK7 (ERK5) serine/threonine kinase is a member of the MAP kinase family and is involved in various cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development.
MAPK7 is activated by MAP2K5/MEK5 and mediates downstream signaling of multiple receptors. Upon extracellular stimulation, MAPK7 translocates to the nucleus and regulates gene expression by phosphorylating transcription factors.
Gene deletion of MAPK7 in mice leads to defective cardiovascular development and embryonic lethality, indicating its essential role in endothelial function and vascular integrity.
ERK5 is expressed in many adult tissues, including heart, placenta, lung, kidney, and skeletal muscle, but is not detectable in liver.
Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding two isoforms have been reported.
