Target Information
Neuropilin 1 is a 923-amino-acid membrane-bound coreceptor belonging to the neuropilin family. It contains two CUB domains, two F5/8 type C domains, and a MAM domain. Neuropilin 1 forms a heterodimer with Neuropilin 2 (NRP2) and binds to plexin (PLXNB1) to form semaphorin receptors. It is predominantly expressed in the nervous system and involved in cardiovascular development, angiogenesis, axon guidance, neuronal circuit formation, cell survival, neuronal migration, and organogenesis. Neuropilin 1 also functions as a receptor for semaphorins and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), acting as a regulator of VEGF-induced angiogenesis. Additionally, it may play roles in aggressive prostate carcinoma and breast cancer progression.
