Target Information
Van Gogh (VANGL2) is a vertebrate homolog of the Drosophila strabismus protein and a component of the frizzled-disheveled tissue polarity pathway.
It interacts through its C-terminal region with DVL1, DVL2, and DVL3, acting as a potent tumor suppressor. VANGL2 plays key roles in:
- Early morphogenesis and axial midline development
- Neural plate patterning
- Planar cell polarity regulation, especially in cochlear stereociliary bundle orientation
- Polarization and movement of myocardializing cells via RHOA signaling
