Oncogenic protein Her-2/neu (erbB-2), a member of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) family, is overexpressed in approximately 30% of invasive breast cancers and 70% of ductal carcinomata in situ. It is also found in a subset of melanomas and other malignancies from organs such as ovary, kidney, colon, and bladder.
Target Information
Trastuzumab (Herceptin) is an FDA-approved HER2-targeted therapeutic antibody for breast cancer. It is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody (IgG1 kappa) that binds to the HER2 receptor on HER2-positive tumor cells, inhibiting cell growth and proliferation.
