Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
Transgelin (also designated SM22alpha) is abundantly expressed in smooth muscle cells. Transgelin-2 (SM22alpha homolog) is a homolog of transgelin and is also expressed in smooth muscle cells and peritoneal B-1 cells.
The human transgelin-2 gene (TAGLN2), located on chromosome 1q23.1–q25, encodes a 199 amino acid protein containing a calponin-like repeat and a calponin-homology (CH) domain.
Transgelin-2 may function similarly to transgelin. During embryogenesis, transgelin is expressed in smooth, cardiac, and skeletal muscle, but later restricted to vascular and visceral smooth muscle cells and low levels in heart.
Transgelin is downregulated in transformed cell lines, suggesting reduced expression may indicate early transformation. It binds actin, causing actin fibers to gel within minutes of binding, at a ratio of 1:6 actin monomers.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
