It may be used in immunoassays to detect C. trachomatis.
The immunogen is C. trachomatis elementary bodies.

Chlamydia trachomatis is an intracellular organism that typically infects the cervix and fallopian tubes in women and the urethra in men. It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
In a population of 15 million, up to 300,000 cases may occur annually, with many undiagnosed. The prevalence among sexually active individuals is estimated at 5–10%.
Chlamydia is also a leading cause of blindness in underdeveloped countries.
