Target Information
TRAIL-R1 (CD261, DR4) is a type I transmembrane protein, also known as TRAIL receptor 1. The ligand for this DR4 death receptor has been identified and termed TRAIL, a member of the TNF family. DR4, like other receptors such as Fas and TNFR1, mediates apoptosis and NF-κB activation in many cells and tissues.
Apoptosis, a programmed cell death process, is essential in normal cellular differentiation and development of multicellular organisms. It is induced by certain cytokines (TNF family: TNF, Fas ligand) interacting with their death domain-containing receptors (TNFR1, Fas receptor).
