Target Information
The SLC27A4 gene encodes a member of the fatty acid transport protein family, involved in the translocation of long-chain fatty acids across the plasma membrane. This protein is highly expressed on the apical side of mature enterocytes in the small intestine and serves as the principal fatty acid transporter in enterocytes. Clinical studies suggest this gene as a candidate for insulin resistance syndrome, and mutations have been associated with ichthyosis prematurity syndrome.
